ALLEGRO PIANOS HAS A LARGE SELECTION OF USED PIANOS AT OUR STAMFORD SHOWROOM
When pre - owned pianos are received at Allegro Pianos, they are inspected, repaired as needed and prepared for sale.
Some pre-owned pianos are young of age and in original mint condition. Our master technicians tune, voice and regulate these pianos so that they perform at 'as new' level or at times, even better than new.
When a piano is older than 20 - 25 years, they usually need more work.
We separate such instruments to 'used pianos which are economically worth the repair' and those that are soon to be 'money pits' and may present a host of problems.
In spite of what is usually a very low initial price, the 'money pit' group usually represent the worst values within the piano market.
Worst, it is likely to discourage students, especially young students and beginners, from playing the piano having to deal with continued maladies and lack of basic necessary qualities of tone and touch.
Pianos that do not monetarily justify the necessary work are either discarded or sold at wholesale to dealers specializing in 'heirloom pianos' that serve mostly aesthetic purposes and should not be played.
Used pianos of better quality may justify the necessary investment and so, they may undergo reconditioning including replacement of new strings, new tuning pins and sometimes new pin block, new damper felts, new key bushings and some new action parts (usually hammers, shanks and flanges) as well as finish enhancements.
Other pianos go through even a more very extensive, time consuming - high level restoration that includes (in addition to the work reconditioned pianos get) a new soundboard, complete new action, overhauling of the pedal/trap work and brand new - high quality finish. we usually refer to such instruments as 'fully rebuilt' or 'fully restored'...unfortunately, such terms are not uniformly used within the used piano market.
What do the terms 'used piano' , 'reconditioned piano' or 'refurbished piano', 'rebuilt piano' or 'restored piano' really mean?
Apparently, not much as such terms are vague enough and often misused creating more confusion than clarity.
The used piano market is very confusing and if not navigated properly, often leads to frustration rather than happiness.
yes, it may contain some excellent values from one side, but also the worst values in the piano market on the other side.
