Blüthner pianos have been at the pinnacle of the fine art of piano
making for over one hundred and fifty years. Their uniquely pure, warm,
and expressive character, and their remarkably responsive actions have
made them the first choice of many of the world's great composers and
pianists. Debussy, Prokofiev, Shostakovitz, Tchaikovsky and
Rachmininof, among others, composed their music on Blüthner pianos and
each had his own personal Blüthner in his home.
The tone of the Blüthner is so rich and expressive that it is often
compared to the human voice. Perhaps this is why many singers and
musicians choose it for their private use and for recording. Marlene
Dietrich owned a Blüthner, as did the Beatles, who composed on a
Blüthner, recorded with a Blüthner, and even featured it on the cover of
their album "Let it be". Andrew Lloyd Weber owns several Bluthners that
continue to inspire him to create the remarkable compositions for his
musicals. The Blüthner is also the piano of choice for the renowned
modern-day classical pianists Mikhail Pletniev and Arturo Pizzaro.
The unique playing and listening experience provided by Blüthner pianos
is a direct result of the distinct Blüthner method of piano building and
of the unique Blüthner design.
Blüthner's commitment to use only the highest-grade parts and materials,
un-compromised craftsmanship, the keenest attention to details and the
highest level of quality control guarantees that each piano that it
builds will produce the unique and beautiful Blüthner sound.
Blüthner pianos are also known for their graceful and exquisite looks.
From the beautifully designed and finished plates, through the unique
custom wood finishes and artistic veneers, the Blüthner objective for
perfection is always evident. The term "custom hand made pianos" has
its own special meaning when it refers to pianos made by Blüthner. And
the close personal relationship that Allegro Pianos has with the
Blüthner family gives you, as an Allegro customer, virtually direct
access to the Blüthner factory. Should you desire a custom finish,
perhaps one that matches one of your own stains or veneers, the Blüthner
factory will almost always be able to create the look that you want.
Should you want a custom feature in some other part of the piano, we can
talk about that as well. A few years ago the Blüthner factory went so
far as to produce for a left-handed client an inverted piano where the
bass is on the right side of the keyboard and the treble is on the left.
The president of the Blüthner piano company, Dr Christian Blüthner, is
the fifth generation descendent of Julius Blüthner, the company's
founder; he is part of an unbroken line that extends one hundred and
fifty years. It is a line that has allowed the Blüthner family to
continuously maintain complete control over the production and
development of its pianos and that has enabled them to consistently
produce the highest-level instruments. A Blüthner family member has
always been at the helm of the company and Blüthner has always been a
family-owned and operated business.
As such, the Blüthner family takes unequaled pride in each and every
instrument that bears its name and is committed to assuring that each
and every one of its pianos not only delivers the signature Blüthner
sound, but also satisfies the highest expectations of the most
discerning individual.
For the pleasure of its customers, Allegro Pianos always has an
extensive selection of Bluthners on display in most available sizes and
with several different finishes. These pianos are all perfectly prepared
to be at their highest potential, and they are all ready to be
evaluated and played by Allegro customers at any time. We are fully
committed to assuring that your Blüthner experience at Allegro Pianos is
as rewarding as possible - and we're always just a phone call away. |

| Here are some of Blüthner's unique design and build characteristics,
made to ensure the pure, warm and expressive signature sound of these
pianos: |

SOUNDBOARD
The Blüthner piano company uses clear, quarter-sawn solid spruce to create a soundboard with extraordinary resonance. Master craftsmen select flawless boards with extremely tight growth rings. Careful manufacturing assures the greatest responsiveness due to an optimal ratio of elasticity to density.
Unlike those of other pianos, Blüthner soundboards are crowned so that the highest portion is directly under the treble bridge. This uncommon feature provides the most support where down-bearing force is greatest. The result is a more uniform transmission of tone throughout the entire keyboard. |

RIMS
The materials, design, and craftsmanship used to create a piano’s rim will correlate directly with the lifespan of the instrument. The best pianos will have thick, hard rims, which support the soundboard. Blüthner’s massive rims are crafted from hardwood beech and ensure that each instrument will last a lifetime –decades longer than a piano with thinner or softer rims.
The outer rim is made in two halves using up to 7 layers of veneer, laminated crosswise with water resistant glue. The inner rim is laminated using at least 14 layers of select beech. These parts are carefully stored until uniform moisture content of 8% plus/minus 1.5% is reached. |

STRINGS
The treble strings and the core wire are of highest grade, strong, elastic steel wire. The high precision in production avoids differences in diameters, which ensures a clear tone without any falseness. The bass strings are spun with hexagonal core wire that assures that their exterior copper wrapping will remain tight and secure throughout the lifetime of the instrument. Each string is individually hitched to create a clear, pure sound.
The Blüthner piano company is well known for its patented Aliquot System which includes a fourth string for all notes in the highest portion of the treble section. These strings are raised slightly so as never to be struck by the instrument’s hammers. However, the fourth strings vibrate sympathetically resulting in a more colorful tone than other instruments.

IRON FRAME
The iron frame takes on the force from the strings under tension and must be firmly connected with the inner casing under structure. Blüthner has developed an iron frame that is reinforced along the main tensile lines of force. It is not only important to have an appealing and timeless design; the frame also has to be able to affect the instrument’s acoustics. Blüthner’s many years of experience and knowledge in iron frame design ensure that no audible amount of tonal spectrum is lost. In fact, the iron frame does indeed contribute to the tonal development of the Blüthner piano. |

ACTION
A well-designed and carefully constructed action gives the pianist complete control of his instrument. Renner actions, hand-crafted in Germany, are widely recognized by technicians and pianists to be the best in the world. A Renner action, customized according to Blüthner’s specifications, provides a smooth and fluid touch. All parts are made of select sound hardwood, free from imperfections. All critical action felts and cloths are made of 100% wool, with a manufacturer’s moth-resistant treatment, and attain the highest felt and cloth standards. Center pins are of nickel silver. All center-pin bushing material is pre-shrunk. The actions of all Blüthner pianos are designed and thoroughly tested for optimum performance and longevity. |
